Comparing meeting transcription and summary features
Compare meeting transcripts and AI summaries by coverage, meaning, attribution, correction work and access.
A transcript helps verify wording; a summary brings decisions and follow-up into view. Zoom ties Meeting Summary quality to caption-language settings, Teams separates live Copilot notes and tasks from recap summaries, and Google Meet names “Take notes for me” and meeting transcripts.
Define what each output must answer
Zoom — Meeting Summary uses speech-to-text data, and setting the caption language correctly helps its quality. If captions are disabled or have not been used, English is selected by default; if captions were used before, the previous language is reused, and AI detects and adapts to a mismatch with the spoken language.
Teams — Copilot can generate notes and list tasks during a meeting without recording or transcription, and turning it on does not automatically start transcription. Custom AI recap summaries require a transcribed meeting; Speaker summary organises content by who said what, while Executive report gives high-level takeaways. Custom templates can remove sections or adjust tone.
Google Meet — “Take notes for me” and “Use Transcripts with Google Meet” are named features. Google Meet transcripts are saved as Google Docs files in the meeting organiser’s Drive after the meeting.
Compare both outputs against one discussion
Use the same content check for each workflow: a decision, rejected proposal, action owner, date and important qualification. Compare transcript wording with the summary before treating each item as captured.
Teams Recap includes the transcript and custom summary alongside the event recording, shared files, notes, agenda and follow-up tasks when an event was recorded or transcribed. A reviewer can open the transcript alongside the summary to check a claim against meeting wording.
Teams intelligent recap uses AI-powered features to take reviewers to the moments they are looking for. Google Meet transcripts keep track of who said what and include a list of attendees.

Compare access and correction work
Google Meet transcription is available on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Education Plus. The feature is on by default, but transcription is not automatic for each meeting; someone in the meeting has to start it.
After the meeting, the transcript is saved to the organiser’s Drive, and the organiser, meeting hosts and person who started transcription receive an email with a link. Organisers can also find transcripts in the Meet Recordings folder in Drive.
Teams recaps are available after events, including meetings, town halls, webinars and calls, that were recorded or transcribed. Organisers can share a recap link with anyone in their organisation or add recipients; people without existing access can request it.
For Teams meetings, the organiser can select Only during the meeting in Copilot options, after which a participant can turn on Copilot from the meeting controls. Other attendees cannot see that person’s Copilot conversation.
After a Teams meeting, live transcription is needed to prompt or view the Copilot conversation, and Copilot is available in Recap only if transcription or recording was on during the meeting. Microsoft Purview retention policies may retain Copilot prompts and responses for compliance, even when recording and transcription are off.
Teams custom recap templates can be previewed before they are saved and applied. Saved templates can be edited or deleted; for a meeting series, the template is remembered for future occurrences and summaries automatically appear in that format.
