Checking export quality before choosing a slide tool
Choose a slide tool using the file that recipients will actually open. A deck that looks right in the editor can reflow, lose animation or become difficult to revise after export.
Choose the hand-off format before testing: Gamma lists PDF, PPTX and PNG, plus Google Slides via PPTX upload; Decktopus lists PDF, PPTX and PNG. Test the export route your chosen tool offers and recipients will use.
For a PPTX hand-off, reopen the file in PowerPoint; named versions include PowerPoint for Microsoft 365, PowerPoint for Mac and PowerPoint for iPad. If testing Gamma’s Google Slides route, upload the PPTX to Google Slides and inspect the result there.
For a Keynote candidate, export to PowerPoint or as slide images, then check the output in its intended destination. Keynote notes that higher-quality slide images create larger files, so compare image quality and file size together.
Make a representative deck with long headings, unusual fonts, a table, a chart, speaker notes and essential media. Export it in each format you plan to use, then reopen it in the destination app and on a second device.
Check text wrapping, fonts, alignment, cropping, chart labels, notes, essential media and whether key elements remain editable. Present the file to check whether animation is lost, rather than judging it only in thumbnail view.
Record each defect and whether it is cosmetic or changes meaning. A shifted footnote or hidden qualifier matters more than a slight spacing change.
Treat an export as failed if it changes meaning. If repairs take almost as long as rebuilding the deck, choose a workflow that keeps the final editor closer to the generation tool.
Pros and Cons of Exporting to Google Slides via PPTX
- Pros
- Allows real-time collaboration; ideal for teams using Google Workspace in Australia
- Cons
- Requires manual PPTX upload; may cause formatting drift or loss of animation
File Size vs. Image Quality Trade-off (Keynote Export)
- High-Quality Images
- Larger file size, better clarity for print or high-res displays
- Lower-Quality Images
- Smaller file size, faster sharing, suitable for screen presentations
- Recommendation
- Compare quality and file size when exporting from Keynote for Australian audiences
